FED Workshop – Conscious Consumer: Chocolate

February 25 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

$60

Join this intimate gathering to learn the process of making chocolate while exploring topics such as transparent trade, growing cacao, and chocolate production! The afternoon will offer both hands-on and listening expereinces as chocolate expert Anjuli Dharna guides attendees through a truly unique chocolate workshop.

Broadly speaking this event will offer the opportunity to both taste and discuss your way to being an educated consumer of everyone’s favorite sweet treat. How will our chocoalte expert achieve this? We’re so glad you asked!

Anjuli Dharna will teach guests how to take cacao from a raw, simple ingredient to the sweet & bitter bites of yumminess we all love to indulge in through an engaging demonstation. Each guest will watch cacao transform in front of them, with many opportunities for tasting as the ingredient embarks on it’s journey to becoming chocolate.

While watching and tasting this transformation in action, Anjuli will engage attendees in a discussion that ventures beyond fair trade to discuss transparent trade and what that means. This discussion will offer a genuine and intimate setting for digging into the complications popular goods such as chocolate can cause. If you wanted to learn about chocolate from start to finish, with everything in between, this is your chance!

The afternoon of learning will take place in Ruby’s Market, located on South Pearl Street. This location is nesteled South of downtown in a cute neighborhood. The area is full of delightful places that we would love to recommend for food or beverages after you indulge in chocolate samples throughout the event. We will be offering hot tea throughout the afternoon to compliment the chocolate and warm guests from the chilly winter weather.

Our team is thrilled to host the debut of the new FED Workshop program and are eager to have you join us for this gathering. Please contact us with any questions or concerns.

As an important note, through our mission of good, clean, and fair food for all, we are focusing our attention on the fair and equitable pay of those who run and lead our FED Workshops as well as fair pay for the ingredients, venues, and our staff’s time. We do not consider these events fundraisers for Slow Food Denver, rather they are opportunities for our community to learn & better understand our food system. The individual tickets will be priced in a manner to reflect the true costs of putting on each workshop.
Once we have sold enough tickets to cover the minimum cost of a workshop, a few limited tickets may become available at a pay-what-you-can price point. If you would like to be on our waitlist for these limited tickets for a particular class, please reach out to us at info@slowfooddenver.org. We would love to have you join and appreciate your understanding as we make this equitable for the incredible people sharing their expertise, space, and talents as we all continue to grow in our understanding of a fair, sustainable food system.
