MAY 2024 NEWSLETTER

Updated: Jul 23

I think we can all agree that May is a crazy time of year. We’ve been busy busy busy at Slow Food Denver! And we are so excited to share all of our happenings with you. Our May has contained farm visits, Farm Dinner planning sessions, scheduling of fall FED workshops, launching tickets for spring FED, applying to grants, tabling around the city, and more! Plus, we’re hiring for our Seed to Plate team because our youth education team just keeps increasing their scope of work.

This month we released our formal save the date for our annual Slow Food Farm Dinner. We’ll be hosting this year’s rendition of the annual fundraiser on September 7th at MASA Seed Foundation. Each time we visit this farm we are continuously impressed by the incredible work their team is doing. We’re so thrilled to bring our community to their space and offer the opportunity for learning and connecting. This year we will feature a similar whole animal concept to last year by procuring and preparing 2 hogs from which all the meat for the evening will be sourced. Our chef for the event will be James Beard finalist Matt Vawter of Radicato and Rootstalk, with an assist from Paul Reilly. As we get closer to the event, we’re excited to unveil new collaborators and elements this year.

Speaking of the fall, we’ve started finalizing dates for our FED workshops in the latter half of the year. You’ve likely heard about the Cooking While Camping workshop happening on June 30th, but have you snagged your tickets? We recommend it, because it is gonna be a fantastic afternoon of cooking, eating, gathering, learning, and enjoying an urban farm. You may not have heard about our next two workshops, Intro to Fermentation on July 18th and Gardening for Food Security and the Earth on August 3rd, so make sure to mark your calendars for both. We’ll be releasing tickets for each soon! This fall, we’ll be hosting workshops that focus on charcuterie meats and chai tea, as two separate events. Additionally, the Panel Discussion on the Intersection of Food and Culture was rescheduled for November 13th. Keep an eye out for more information about all of these fun events!

What else is going on? We’ll be heading over to Sullivan Scrap Kitchen for a happy hour event to kick off their generous month of giving all throughout June. Join us from 4 to 6 on the evening of June 6th to relax, sip a beverage, enjoy some delicious food, and get to know SFD staff. At the end of May we’ll be hosting the highly anticipated Foraging Workshop with Andy Conners and Kate Armstrong. We’ve also got farm and garden volunteer dates throughout the month, so we’ll be throwing our garden gloves on and spending mornings in the sun helping out local growers. We hope to see you at some, or all, of these events!

As previously mentioned, our youth education team is still hiring for new instructors. If you’re interested in learning more about the position, check out our website. If you’d like to apply for the role, email nikki@slowfooddenver.org with your resume and cover letter.

That’s all for now, but make sure to keep an eye on your email for event tickets we release. You can also use our social media and blog to stay updated on all the Slow Food Denver happenings!
