Meet The Team

Kristine Root

Good food is my happy place. I love it. I live for it. I’ve built my life around supporting it. It started in fifth grade when we decided to plant a family garden. We had more produce than we could eat and more than we could give away, so we sold the rest to the local grocery store. For the next few summers I spent hours planting, weeding, and best of all eating veggies straight out of the garden and gleaning fruit from our apple, pear, and plum trees. That was the glory of summer and fall in Minnesota and I savored it!

My love for good food has woven its way into every phase of my life showing up in different ways as my life has changed. Before I moved to Denver in 2012, I did my research on the local food scene. I found a CSA for the summer and I created a Google Map with all of the local farm to table restaurants I could find through my research online. I was adamant that good food would continue to be at the center of our plate and our life. But that was just the beginning.

Just after moving to Denver I found Slow Food Denver and I knew that it was exactly what I was craving. I volunteered to help sort seedlings for the school garden program. I signed up to join a Crop Mob with my two little boys. Everything I volunteered to do was so much fun and made me feel like I was able to contribute in a meaningful way in support of the good food world. The only natural thing to do was keep doing more.

Since 2012 I’ve been supporting Slow Food Denver in a variety capacities from program development to board chair, each opportunity has been rich and rewarding. Slow Food Denver has connected me to a group of wonderful and warm people who share my love for good food. Together we are growing communities and making good food accessible to more people across the Denver Metro area.
