February 2024 Letter

February has come, and nearly gone, with lots of exciting updates here at the Denver chapter of Slow Food. We awarded four new Snail of Approval establishments, welcomed new board members to our organization, hosted two private celebrations, and more!

Last month we had the pleasure of welcoming a new staff member to the Slow Food Denver, and this month we have happily greeted new board members as well. At our annual holiday party for the board, we met as a chapter and became acquainted with all the new people in the SFD family. Visit our website to read more about the new members of our associate and advisory board, while seeing familiar faces that have moved into executive positions. Not only was this gathering filled with inspiring conversation, but also beautiful and delicious food catered through Ruby’s Bazaar. The veggie curry, babaganoush, dolmas, and more had everyone clamoring for leftovers. If you’re not familiar with Ruby’s catering, we highly recommend checking it out.

January also featured a Snail of Approval Celebration to which we invited all of our awardees to convene at Haykin Cider for an evening of sharing food and ideas. At the celebration we spoke about each awardee in attendance and highlighted the amazing work they are doing in the community. We were thrilled to award three of the Id Est Hospitality concepts just days before the celebration, and lucky to have members of their team join us for the evening. The three concepts awarded are Brutø, The Wolf’s Tailor, and Hey Kiddo/ok yeah. This month we also welcomed Cappello’s into the Snail of Approval cohort. This unique grain-free company is based locally, but serves a national community of individuals looking to eat gluten free in a conscious, intentional manner. We look forward to working more with all of these incredible awardees!

February brought the first installment of our new Food Ethos Denver (FED) Workshops. We’re happy to announce that the Talk & Taste: Chocolate course was a smashing success with testimonials including “This story of cacao needs to be told… expert guided workshop. A masterclass, don’t miss this!” and “This was truly a masterclass; I learned more than I could have thought to ask for.” Bummed you missed it? Well you’re in luck because the FED Workshops are a monthly occurrence and we’ve got the next one coming up soon on March 23rd. This Talk & Taste workshop will focus on Colorado wines and debunking the myth that all our local wine is “lesser.” Don’t believe me? Join us for an afternoon filled with delicious wines and personal conversations with the wine makers themselves.

February was also filled with exciting happenings such as farm tours for our Annual Slow Food Farm Dinner, formation of subcommittees on our board, news about Terra Madre 2024, and more. Stay tuned for more information on all of this by subscribing to our newsletter and checking the blog regularly for updates!
