The Youth Farmers’ Market program is a joint effort between Slow Food Denver and Denver Urban Gardens. Students are taught how to set up a market stand on school grounds and sell to the school community produce from the school gardens as well as from local farms. Students learn about marketing, business management, seasonality of produce, and money handling skills.
In 2011, we produced:
- 141 Markets in 32 schools
- 23,080 pounds of produce sold
- $26,313 in total sales
- $16,774 value of produce from CO farms
- $8,977 profit from markets
