Slow Food Denver Happenings

First C.A.F.E. Dinner A Huge Success!

We hosted our first 2012 C.A.F.E. dinner at Bittersweet on June 25. The sold-out crowd enjoyed wonderful food prepared by Chef Olav Peterson and listened to presentations from three of our microgrant finalists. When the voting was finished, Denver Yard Harvest received a $1,500 microgrant, Rose Roots Community Garden received $1,000, and Denver Truck Farm was awarded $500. Thanks to everyone who attended, and thanks to Chipotle for their generous support of the program.

The next C.A.F.E. dinner, a street party featuring food from Brava Pizza and others, is scheduled for August 26.

Join Slow Food Denver at the Denver County Fair

Slow Food Denver is sponsoring the Locarama Diorama Contest again this year at the Denver County Fair. Contestants will create dioramas that display their favorite farm, restaurant, market, or garden representing Denver’s local food scene. Anyone can apply their creativity and imagination!

Last year we had more than 100 entries and lots of fun, so this year we’re forming a committee to help plan and staff the event. If you would like to help with advance planning or be on site during the fair August 10-12, please contact Gigia (thenaturalpantry – at – estreet.com). We’re also looking for donations of arts and crafts supplies, shoe boxes, and prizes for the winners.

We have lots of fun and educational events coming up — be sure to check back often so you don’t miss any of them!
